To this end, we provide complimentary resources, advocacy campaigns, and local personal support to build scalable financial wellness initiatives throughout New Mexico.

Strengthening New Mexico with Sustainable Economic Empowerment Programming

The mission of the New Mexico Financial Educators Council℠ is to build sustainable, scalable economic empowerment programs that have a real impact on people’s lives at the community level. To accomplishing this mission, we focus on these 3 Pillars:

Pillar 1: Increase Access & Develop Sustainable Financial Education Programming.

Organizations – We provide resources, training, personnel, and support to build scalable financial wellness programming.

Individuals & Families – Resources and courses are provided for those seeking to improve their own finances and/or teach their kids about money.

Pillar 2: Raise Awareness for Economic Empowerment through Financial Education.

Advocacy Promotion Campaigns – We promote the adoption of financial literacy into schools, getting families involved in teaching kids about money, and encouraging individuals to improve their knowledge.

Local Financial Education Data – Conducting and curating New Mexico-specific personal finance research to share with stakeholders across the education and media sectors.

Pillar 3: Develop Relationships to Deploy and Sustain Community Financial Wellness.

New Mexico Financial Literacy

The New Mexico financial literacy team, currently spreading information and resources across the Land of Enchantment, is led by the New Mexico Financial Educators Council℠. This group is dedicated to the New Mexico financial literacy push which helps individuals and organizations receive access to key information and resources that will build New Mexico financial literacy. The campaign is part of a wider effort striving to improve overall financial competency among citizens and communities nationwide.

New Mexico Financial Literacy Legislation & Educational Stats

The wide-open spaces in the Land of Enchantment contain, according to the CCD (Common Core of Data; a U.S. DOE/National Center for Education Statistics, 2014-15): 340,365 total students, 889 schools, and 22,410 teachers. Contrast these figures with the national averages: 986,521 students, 1,972 schools, and 61,418 teachers.

Three pieces of legislation related to financial education in New Mexico schools were being debated as of 2015. Senate Bill 28 would appropriate a statewide education program for home buyers. Senate Bill 627 and House Bill 533 would appropriate funds “to purchase and implement curricula related to work force readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential programming for youth” (National Conference of State Legislatures, 2015).

About the New Mexico Financial Educators Council℠

The New Mexico Financial Educators Council℠ is a financial literacy drive developed in 2017. The New Mexico Financial Educators Council℠ collaborates with the National Financial Educators Council® (NFEC®) on its broader national effort. The two organizations share common financial education objectives to be accomplished through community-wide campaigns.
